Reciprocity

People repay in kind. Give what you want to receive – its the old biblical saying. We have good days and bad days and sometimes all it takes for someone to turn a frown upside down is a smile or a warm hug or a genuine ‘How are you?’. That’s all.

Two years ago, my boss was having a bad day and all it took was one question to turn his mood and therefore his day around. I asked, “What can I do to add more energy to your day?” That simple question changed every decision he made the rest of his day.

He paid me back in kind. The following week, I was lowly and morose for some reason. He observed my body language, walked back to his office and sent me a funny youtube link that had me in splits. That’s all it took – one quick mental note, one quick online search and one quick email.

Whose day have you brightened today? Do you have a got-paid-in-kind story of your own?
